Hey all! Right now there's a pinhole photography exhibit going on at the Westport Maritime Museum. I put it together and, of course, it features quite a few of my Pintoids, both the cameras and the images. Feel free to check it out. The show will run through April. I've also installed a Camera Obscura, made from an old metal milk crate, for your viewing pleasure.

Meanwhile, my pinhole workshop is scheduled for April 24 & 25. The first day we'll be at the museum - the second day we'll be in my studio. We will focus on (heh, heh "focus") building Pintoid cameras, then shooting with them and processing the film. I will also show you a way to do digital pinhole. The workshop is sponsored by the South Beach Arts Association & costs $85 for members and $105 for non-members. Lunch is provided the first day and coffee, etc both days.  Remember, April 25th is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day! We'll load whatever images we take on Sunday onto the WPPD website. Kelsey & JJ's wedding happened on New Year's Eve! Here are some of my favorites shots.

I'll have a display at the Harbor Bridal Fair, but I'm sorry to say that I'll miss it. We'll be out of town for a funeral.

An upcoming event! I'll be at the Westport Winery on Saturday, January 9th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It's their second annual Harbor Bridal Fair. Visit the winery on that day for info on wedding photography! Local wedding vendors will be there to answer your questions and help you to plan your day. There will also be a wedding fashion show. The South Beach Arts Association is sponsoring a pinhole photography workshop! I'll be running this workshop in the Westport, WA area on April 24th & 25th 2010. We're working out the details so keep checking back. I'll post more info here as the workshop evolves. Looking forward to it!!! 'Toids in the 'hood!

On Friday, the 13th of November the South Beach Arts Association is holding a meeting at Chateau Westport. I'm their featured speaker. They tell me I have an entire hour! I can hear the snores already. Can't decide on a title though. "There's more to photography than meets the eye"? "The many facets of photography"? In either case, the title reveals the truth. I haven't narrowed down my subject yet....other than it'll have something to do with photography.

I was away for a couple of weeks, taking care of family stuff. I managed to use some Pintoids along the way.

Last weekend was Morgan & Dan's wedding in Aberdeen. I've posted some of my favorites right here. The rest will be posted online within the next few days.

Merrill Photography will be participating in the October 3rd "Girls Night Out" in Aberdeen. The event supports the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation. 5-9PM at the Grays Harbor College HUB. Yikes! It's past time to update! We had a great turnout for the Tokeland / North Cove Chamber of Commerce's Out Of The Box art show & wine tasting event last weekend. We raised over $1200 (the total is yet to be determined) for the Ocosta School art program. Thanks to all who stopped by to view my Pintoids!

My niece, Ashley, visited from Michigan and we shot her senior portraits. It gave me the idea that I might do a senior portrait "safari" to eastern WA. Well, the Gorge anyway. Any takers?

Amber & TJ's wedding was a lot of fun! An old red car at the Swiss Hall. You know, one week this job takes me to Harvard Yard ... the next week it's the Lebam Tav. You just never know.

If you haven't checked out Oceana Day Spa in Aberdeen yet, you're definitely missing a real treat! Katrina Zozaya has created a pleasant retreat in the heart of Aberdeen. I've got some canvas prints on display at Oceana.

The canvas gallery wrap that hangs in the relaxation room is a 20"x40" image of shorebirds and ocean.
The image hanging here, a maternity shot done on the beach, was actually taken with a pinhole camera.  The canvas is 24"x30" with text along the sides.
The Tide pools canvas in the hallway is 24"x36" with text on the sides. All of these quality prints are 1 1/2" deep gallery wrapped canvas. They are for sale at $350.00 each.	A 24"x30" canvas gallery wrap in the massage room.

Anyone who knows me knows I like funky old cameras and beekeeping. Imagine my surprise when I saw these signs outside of Tim's Camera in Montesano! I stopped by yesterday & bought some wax foundation. Nice folks.

The studio open house, held on Saturday April 25th, was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who stopped by! Thanks also to Kitty, Erik & Don for sharing my space!

I just found out that one of my images will be on the cover of this year's Cranberry Coast Visitor's Guide! YAY! Look for the surfer girl cover coming to tourist info racks all around the area and beyond.

We're having a studio open house! In conjunction with the Tokeland / North Cove Art Tour, Merrill Photography will be hosting an open house on April 25th from noon until 6:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served (wine, cheese, cookies...). Stop by and get your picture taken in our fine setting - for free! 03-06-09: We're back from Vegas! Ah oh... there appears to be a problem with the phone service. If you're trying to call, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully it'll be repaired quickly! Meanwhile, I found the niftiest lens! I messed around with it in Vegas and here are some samples. I can't wait to experiment with it during a portrait session. Any takers?

As of yesterday, our studio has partnered with Pictage and will begin offering online viewing and ordering of wedding photos and other events, including senior portrait sessions. I'm hoping for a smooth transition!

We just got back from a visit to Fairbanks. The warmest it got while we were there was about +4 F, with the coldest somewhere around -44 F.

Well, that storm was kind of a drag. The studio stayed dry but all of the access roads were closed due to mudslides. The phone was out for a day or two ... other than having to reschedule some senior portraits, we faired well. Here's something to cheer us up - from better weather days. A peek at a couple of Carlie and Joey's senior portraits.

12-27-08:

A  TV documentary production company called Flashback TV purchased the rights to use one of my Pintoid images in a Discovery Channel program regarding a possible Nazi UFO conspiracy. It aired recently on the Discovery Channel. Here's a photo of my credit on TV (taken with my cell phone).

I would like to say it was my 15 minutes of fame. However, the image flashed on the screen briefly once ... and only very briefly two other times. I'm not convinced the image had anything to do with the documentary's subject. And the documentary itself? Well, I'll let you decide, if and when you view it. Look for the Nazi UFO Conspiracy on Discovery. OR I just noticed that you can purchase it online at the Discovery Channel's web site! http://shopping.discovery.com/product-74867.html Oh wait! Wait! WAIT! Save your 20 bucks! The site says the show will air again on December 30 at 5:00 PM. Look for this photo.

 By the way, I'm going to be available at two upcoming bridal fairs. Coming up very quickly is the Harbor Bridal Fair at the Westport Winery on January 10, 2009. There will be quite a few local vendors there including Lorna's Line. She'll be doing a bridal fashion show throughout the event.  Here's the poster for it, with all the info (yeah...
