Marcy's Pho-Tak Reflex 1 camera review:
This camera arrived with a bit of a mange problem. The shutter was stuck as well. I removed the front plate and cleaned the shutter, freeing it up - but the mange problem remains. It gives it some character, in my book. The Reflex 1's got the Pho-Tak boat anchor weight to it. Even came with the vinyl strap, which is way too thin for its weight. The strap feels as if it either plans to break, dropping the boat anchor to the ground, or it plans to slice your neck ... it can't decide which. In either case, the strap remains pretty much unusable. But I use it anyway. The camera has an "instant" and a "time" setting. Mine came with a flash attachment that accepts press 25 bulbs. The bulbs fire as soon as they touch the flash contact, so there's a short in it somewhere. Still have to look into that. The Pho-Tak Reflex 1 takes 12 6x6 cm images on 620 film. You can't trim 120. You've got to re-roll it onto 620 spools. The camera tends to take its frustrations out on film too. Some nice, long scratch lines down each roll. I've been playing around with a Kodak Portra lens 2+ lately. Tiny depth of field - makes all the difference. My Pho-Tak Reflex 1 - I think I'll call it "Scruffy".
